Born #OTD 1908: Marceline Day

A native of Colorado Springs, and the sister of the esteemed actress Alice Day, Marceline Day (née Marceline Newlin) ascended to the peak of her stardom toward the end of the silent film era and with the advent of 'talkies’. With varying degrees of success, she transitioned into sound films before retiring in 1933 at all of 25 years of age. Nowadays, many careers do not even begin in earnest until that age or thereafter, but decades ago, it was not uncommon for actresses to retire young, typically to wed and raise a family. Alas, Marceline Day never did bear children from either of her marriages (the second of which was not consummated until she was in her 50s), and it appears she harboured few fond recollections of her Hollywood career, as she is noted to have seldom spoken of her time in the limelight. Known for her intensely private nature in the decades post her retirement, she departed this mortal coil in early 2000 at the ripe age of 91.
