Born #OTD 1920: Charlie Parker

Photo: Gregory Carrol

In a mere 34 years upon this earth, Charlie Parker cemented his legacy as one of the most influential bandleaders and saxophonists in history. An icon of the Beat Generation, Parker was affectionately nicknamed 'Yardbird', a moniker later embraced by the seminal British blues rock ensemble, The Yardbirds. Minds more learned than mine have penned volumes about this man and his music, yet I doubt whether mere words can fully convey the profound significance of Charlie Parker in the annals of modern music. He is as indispensable as they come.
