Sir Neville Marriner, widely regarded as one of the world’s most renowned conductors, was born exactly one century ago in the cathedral city of Lincoln, Lincolnshire. His name is familiar to anyone who has ever tuned into classical music on FM radio, as well as that of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the chamber orchestra he did establish. Together, they achieved unparalleled recording success, rendering Marriner and his orchestra among the most prolific ever.
